The Wiston Estate has been owned and managed by the Goring family since 1743. When Harry Goring met and then married South African born Pip, it was at this time Pip’s dream of having a winery, in her new home, in West Sussex started.

Harry Goring says, “No one seemed particularly interested in hundreds of acres of barley and wheat but plant 16 acres of vineyard and people are fascinated”. The vineyard was planted in 2006 and the first harvest was 2008 and the traditional Coquard press at Wiston is one of only four outside of France and is unique to the UK.

The winemaker – Dermot Sugrue
Dermot Sugrue had been making award winning English wines for some years before meeting the Gorings in 2006 and discussed the vision and creation of the Wiston Estate vineyard and winery in the UK. Dermot began his journey at Wiston Estate Winery after completing work on the 2006 vintage Champagne for Jacquinot & Fils.

The Wines
The Wiston wines are made from the three traditional grape varieties; Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, all are sourced from the Wiston home vineyard on the South Downs. The different years dictate the range of wine that will be made and therefore they are all unique and limited. The chalk minerality of the vineyard and low levels of dosage at disgorging give these wines fantastic aging potential and wonderful structure.

Cuvée Brut 2010
This wine has been maturing for several years and is made up of 33% Chardonnay, 45% Pinot Noir, and 22% Pinot Meunier and has been extremely popular with the critics.
“Cuvée Brut 2010” was Jancis Robinson’s personal favourite in a recent blind tasting- Financial Times

Rosé Brut
This is made up of 57% Pinot Noir, 33% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Meunier. This wine has a taste of fresh strawberries balanced by the crisp profile of the Chardonnay and is one of England’s most awarded Rosés. Wiston Estate Winery, now only sell this to Private Clients and is no longer available on the website.
